The Department of Sociology, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, successfully organised a Movie Screening of “Homebound” under PRATIBHA on 20th January 2026 at 9:15 AM in Carmel Hall. The programme was conducted for the students of Semester II and Semester VI with the objective of promoting learning through cinema and developing students’ understanding of social realities through visual narratives.

The programme commenced with a brief introductory address by Dr. Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology. He welcomed the students and explained the purpose of organising the screening under PRATIBHA. He emphasised that cinema is an effective learning resource in sociology as it reflects society, human behaviour, relationships, struggles, and lived experiences. He also encouraged the students to watch the film with a critical and analytical perspective and relate its themes with sociological understanding.

Following the introductory session, the film “Homebound” was screened in a disciplined and engaging environment. Students watched the movie with keen interest and enthusiasm. The film presented meaningful messages and reflected various dimensions of social life such as identity, belongingness, emotional conflict, and human struggle. The screening offered students an opportunity to observe and interpret real-life issues in a more relatable and impactful manner.

After the screening, the students were encouraged to share their views and interpretations of the film. An interactive discussion was held where many students expressed their opinions and reflections. Faculty members guided the discussion and helped students connect the themes of the film with sociological concepts and classroom learning. The discussion promoted critical thinking and encouraged students to analyse society through film as a sociological tool.

The event was successfully concluded under the able guidance of Dr. Tapashi Bhattacharjee, Head, Department of Sociology, along with the support and cooperation of all faculty members of the department. The programme received positive feedback from the students and proved to be both informative and thought-provoking. Overall, the movie screening was a meaningful academic initiative that enriched students’ sociological understanding and promoted learning beyond the classroom.
