Department of Sociology in Collaboration with IQAC, Salesian College (Autonomous), and Department of Sociology, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous) jointly organised a guest lecture on “Future Ready Pedagogy: AI and Human Experience” by Dr. Binayak Sundas, Director, Centre for Himalayan Studies, University of North Bengal. The lecture was delivered online from Salesian College (Autonomous), via Google Meet ID ncq-khjc-ott
Objectives:
After launching the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Application and Website called ChatGPT on 30 November 2022, it affects every aspect of our digital as well as non-digital life through automation, work efficiency, and work capability. It does not mean that AI was not present before ChatGPT, but it brings it to the general public. In this context, the guest lecture addresses how we can make our pedagogy future-ready. What are the challenges, hurdles, and possibilities in future? What is the advantage of AI, and where should we draw the line between AI and humans? To understand whether the AI will generate more new jobs or replace the current jobs with fewer humans. To understand how we can use it wisely for our betterment.
Activity:
The guest lecture was started with an invocation by Fr. Dr. Saju Puthuserry, Vice Principal, Salesian College, and a Welcome Address by Ma. Chunku Lepcha, HoD, Deptt. Of Sociology, Salesian College.
To achieve the objective, the lecture was delivered by Dr. Binayak Sundas with hands-on activity and interaction. During the lecture, both Dr. Binayak Sundas and the students of Salesian College (Autonomous) interacted online with the students of Patna Women’s College (Autonomous). During the lecture, the students were asked to perform some group activities and briefly present it. Students were also sharing their experiences. These activities connected students from both colleges as well as the presenter.
After the lecture, students were also allowed to havea question and answer session.
After the question-answer session, the formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ragini Ranjan, Assistant Professor, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), followed by the facilitation of Dr. Binayak Sundas in Salesian College.
Outcome Achieved:
Students understand the challenges of AI as well as how to use it wisely. They also came to know how to come out of the threat of AI regarding job insecurity.
