Organic Makar Sankranti 2026

Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), in association with the Eco Task Force, Srishti Club, and the PWC Alumni Association, enthusiastically celebrated Organic Makar Sankranti on 13 January 2026. Marking the end of winter and the Sun’s transit into Capricorn, Makar Sankranti symbolises new beginnings and the harvest season, celebrated across India as Lohri, Pongal, Bihu, and Sankranti.
The programme began with Kite Making Competition followed by vibrant exhibition of handmade kites, evaluated by Dr. Neetu, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology;
Dr. Devina Krishna, Assistant Professor, Department of English; and
Dr. Priyanka Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Fashion Designing Winners of the Kite-Making Competition were announced by Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Dean, Faculty of Science. The first prize was awarded to Parno Shree and Adya Singh (History), second prize to Riya Singh and Preety Singh (Zoology), and third prize to Pratibha and Rajnandani (English).
A symbolic Earth Tax ritual led by Dr. Sister M. Rashmi AC, followed by a collective pledge to protect the Earth, added a meaningful environmental message. The celebration concluded with joyful kite flying by faculty and students. The event was coordinated by Ms. Meenakshi Mishra and Mrs. Shobha Srivastava.
