On 26th September 2025, SAMARTH Social Work Club, Patna Women’s College, (Autonomous) Patna University in collaboration with HelpAge India Foundation, Patna under P.A.C.E. (Personal Advancement and Career Enhancement Programme), celebrated the International Day of Older Persons through interactive sessions honoring the dignity and contributions of the elderly. Aligned with the UN theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action,” The International Day of Older Persons is observed annually on October 1st, providing a global platform to recognize and support the elderly community. Distinguished guests highlighted the vital role of elders in community and social progress. The chief guests included Padmashree Rajkumari Devi (Kisan Chachi), Mrs. Gayatri Kumari and Mrs. Poonam Sinha, from the Social Welfare Department, Mr. Vikash Kumar from the Social Security Department (Government of Bihar). The event was coordinated by Dr. Mridul Mishra – Head, Department of Social Work & Coordinator, ‘Samarth’ Social Work Club, Patna Women’s College, Mr. Alok Kumar Verma – State Incharge, Bihar & Jharkhand, HelpAge India, Abhishek Kumar – Deputy Director Programmes, Bihar & Jharkhand, HelpAge India.
Students gained a deeper understanding of aging’s social and cultural significance, developing skills in empathy, intergenerational communication, and community engagement. This empowered them to advocate for the rights and dignity of older persons and to take active roles in social work.
