A personality development programme session was conducted on 11 September 2025 by Assistant Professor Dr. Preeti Kumari for PG students of economics, semester 1, to help students foster good habits, a positive attitude, and inner strength through the medium of storytelling. The purpose of this
session was to encourage students through fictional stories that replacing bad habits with good ones is an important step in a student’s personal growth and success. The session featured a short motivational story of a guru and his disciple on a journey. Along the way, the guru asks his disciple to pull out different plants, such as a small weed, a large bush, and finally a big tree. The disciple easily removes the small and large weeds and bushes, but finds the tree impossible to uproot. The guru then explains that bad habits are like these plants; they are easiest to remove when they are small, but difficult to remove when they grow deep-rooted like trees. After the story, a short discussion was conducted between the professor and the students about the moral of this story and how it applies to each student’s life. The professor highlighted the importance of identifying bad habits at an early stage, as they can be corrected with minimal effort. However, when neglected, these behaviors become deeply ingrained, making them far more difficult to correct. This simple motivational story session was a powerful method to convey essential life values like self-awareness, proactive behavior, and consistent self-discipline in personal and professional development. These are some photos of today’s lecture on personality development –
