Short Documentary Presentation Competition
The Department of Biotechnology successfully organized a Short Documentary Presentation Competition as part of its academic enrichment activities, under the theme: “Innovations in Biotechnology for a Sustainable Future” at MVEIC Hall on 30 july, 2025 at 10:00 am. The event was organised under the leadership of Dr. Arti Kumari, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, Patna Women’s College and the event was supervised by Dr. Vivek Raj, Assistant Professor,Department of Biotechnology, Patna Women’s College .Valuable insights and guidance to the students were given by Dr. Alok Ranjan, Assistant Professor, Patna Women’s College and Dr. Premlata Kumari Assistant Professor, Patna Women’s College .
The primary objective of the event was to foster scientific communication skills, creative expression, and critical understanding of emerging trends in biotechnology. Postgraduate students of M.Sc. Biotechnology participated in teams, each producing a 5–7 minute original documentary focusing on a selected biotechnological innovation relevant to sustainability, healthcare, environment, or industry.
Each documentary focused on a topic such as CRISPR and Gene Editing, Stem Cell Technology, Biofuels, Bioplastics, Environmental Biotechnology, among others. The submissions were evaluated based on key criteria including scientific accuracy, creativity and innovation, clarity of message, visual presentation, and team collaboration.
The competition was judged by panels comprising Dr. Sumit Ranjan (Department of Zoology),Patna Women’s College and Ms. Roma (Department of Mass Communication),Patna Women’s College Following the screening of all documentary entries, the judges provided constructive feedback and delivered an encouraging address to the participants, highlighting the importance of science communication and interdisciplinary knowledge.
The winners of the competition were announced as follows:
🥇 First Prize – Group D (Mansi Srivastava, Anshu, Mahwish Nigar, Kaneez Fatima)
🥈 Second Prize – Group G (Sonali Bharti, Nishu Kumari, Ojesvi Rajhans)
🥉Third Prize (Joint) – Group E (Sidra Mumtaz, Neha, Dilshad) and Group H (Mariyam Mumtaz, Ankita Sindhi Sakshi)
The program was effectively anchored by Mariyam Mumtaz, whose engaging commentary ensured a smooth flow of the event.
A heartfelt Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Anshu Roy, expressing gratitude to the judges, participants, organizing faculty, and audience for their enthusiastic involvement and support.

The competition not only showcased the technical competence and creativity of the students but also emphasized the relevance of biotechnology in addressing global challenges. The event concluded on a positive note, with appreciation for the participating teams, judges, and organizing faculty.
