The Department of Mass Communication, in collaboration with the Department of English Communication and Media, organised a workshop on cinema on 25 November 2025. The resource person for the session was filmmaker, writer, and producer Shruti Anindita Varma, who spoke to students about her journey in the film industry and the creative process behind filmmaking.
The session began with an interactive segment during which students asked questions on storytelling, writing, and career choices in cinema. Responding to their queries, she advised them to keep scouting for stories, stay curious about everyday life, and trust their instincts while developing ideas.
She encouraged students to watch films regularly and cultivate the habit of analysing at least one film a day to deepen their understanding of the craft.
She also urged aspiring filmmakers to begin by making short films, explaining that the process helps them learn the basics and gain confidence. She further highlighted the importance of exploring different areas such as editing, cinematography, and writing to understand which role suits them best.
