World Suicide Prevention Day

On 10th September 2025, WELLNEST – Mental Well-Being Club, in collaboration with the Substance Abuse Prevention Cell and the Department of Sociology, organized a Guest Lecture on World Suicide Prevention Day, based on the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.” The event commenced with an introductory speech delivered by Dr. Nupur Sinha, Head,Department of Psychology and Coordinator of WELLNEST – Mental Well-Being Club, Patna Women’s College.
The event featured two resource persons: Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Head, Department of Psychiatry, IGIMS and Dr. Tapashi Bhattacharjee, Head, Department of Sociology. Dr. Mridul Mishra, Head, Department of Social Work and Nodal Officer of the Substance Abuse Prevention Cell, delivered her address emphasizing the urgent need to break the silence surrounding suicide.
A speech on the aforementioned theme was also presented by Soni and Muskan from the Sociology Department, who highlighted the significance of safeguarding one’s life. Subsequently, Dr. Tapashi Bhattacharjee delivered a detailed presentation in which she provided a comprehensive theoretical framework, elaborating on Émile Durkheim’s seminal contributions to the study of suicide and its sociological implications. Dr. Rajesh Kumar followed with an insightful discourse that underscored practical strategies and approaches to identifying risk factors and supporting individuals affected by suicidal tendencies.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Riya Nagvanshi, Sports Secretary for 2025–26. Overall, the program conveyed an essential message about the value of life and the steps that can be taken to protect individuals from the risks associated with suicide.
