An Intellectual Discourse” on “Remembering Women Representatives in the Making of the Constitution of India”

The Department of Sociology, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, successfully organised “An Intellectual Discourse” on “Remembering Women Representatives in the Making of the Constitution of India” on 19th January 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in MTH, as part of the Republic Day 2026 celebration.

The programme aimed to highlight the contributions of women members in the Constituent Assembly and to promote awareness about equality, inclusion and social justice in the Indian Constitution. The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Anil Kumar (Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology), who emphasised the importance of recognising women’s role in constitution-making.

An informative session followed, focusing on the active participation of women representatives in constitutional debates related to rights, education, social justice and democratic citizenship. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of students and faculty members. A total of 125 students and 11 faculty members from both departments were present, along with two judges from the Departments of Hindi and Psychology. Thirteen students presented papers from the Departments of Sociology and Political Science.

The programme concluded with remarks by Dr. Vinita Priyadarshi Head, Department of Political Science, followed by a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Tapashi Bhattacharjee, Head, Department of Sociology. Overall, the programme was informative and meaningful, strengthening students’ understanding of women’s contributions to Indian democracy.
