The Departments of Data Science & Analytics and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning jointly organized a Student Awareness Programme on Child Labour and Child Trafficking on 23rd March 2026. The initiative sought to sensitize students to critical social concerns and foster their commitment to social justice.
The programme commenced with Ms. Charu Mudgal, a Semester IV student of Data Science & Analytics, who provided an overview of the event and its objectives. She then invited Ms. Poonam Abraham Lakra, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, to felicitate the resource person with a plant sapling, symbolizing growth and sustainability.
Subsequently, Dr. Priyadarshini, Head of the Department of Data Science & Analytics, introduced the distinguished speaker, Mr. Suresh Kumar, Founder of Bal Mitra and practicing advocate. Bal Mitra is an organization dedicated to the eradication of child labour and trafficking.
Mr. Kumar delivered a compelling lecture that examined the root causes and far-reaching consequences of child labour and trafficking. He underscored how poverty and lack of education perpetuate these practices, and through real-life case illustrations, he conveyed the gravity of exploitation faced by children. He further emphasized the transformative role of education and awareness in combating such social evils.
An interactive session followed, during which students engaged actively with the speaker, raising pertinent questions and sharing reflections that enriched the discourse.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Aqsa Shamshir Khan, Semester IV student of Data Science & Analytics, who expressed gratitude to the speaker, faculty organizers, and participants for their collective efforts in making the event a success.
Overall, the programme was highly informative and impactful, inspiring students to contribute meaningfully towards the creation of a safer and more equitable society.
