DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY SEMESTER II ORGANISES A DEBATE COMPETITION

Time – 11:30 A.M. onwards
Venue – Department of History, Room no. 20
Theme – “Did the destruction of ancient universities like Nalanda and Vikram Shila lead to permanent intellectual decline in the region, or has the legacy survived in the modern Bihari identity.” Coordinator – Dr. Satyam Kumar & Mrs. Swati Sinha On the Occasion of Bihar Diwas, the Department of History, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University organised a Debate Competition for students of UG Semester II. It was managed by Dr. Satyam Kumar and Mrs. Swati Sinha, Assistant Professors under the guidance of Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head, Department of History. The Debate saw active participation of the students; total number of 8 students participated with 4 students standing for the motion, asserting that the
destruction of these universities caused a permanent intellectual void and the loss of irreplaceable “Knowledge Centre”. Other 4 against the motion, asserted that the legacy has survived. They pointed to the resilient “Bhari identity”, the state’s continued contribution to civil services and academia. The competition was concluded after announcing the winners: First position
was acquired by Amisha Kumari, Second Position by Ananya & Kanika Singh, and the Third Position by Anshu Kumari.
The entire session was very interactive and enthusiastic and it wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance and support of faculty members. We look forward to more such interesting and interactive opportunities in the future.
