A two days hands on training session on the theme “Learning by Doing: Fundamentals of Molecular Biology” was successfully organized by the Department of Microbiology at Patna Women’s College, For the students enrolled in the IV Semester of Microbiology, including both major and minor streams. The session focused on genomic DNA isolation and its analysis, providing students with valuable real time laboratory experience.
On Day 1, students performed the isolation of genomic DNA from different culture strains using standard laboratory techniques.
On Day 2, students conducted agarose gel electrophoresis to analyze the isolated DNA. They prepared the gel, loaded the samples, and observed DNA bands under a UV illuminator, confirming successful DNA isolation.
The session was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Niti Yashvardhini, Dr. Preeti Swarupa, and Dr. Swetnisha, Assistant Professors, Department of Microbiology, who provided continuous support and guidance throughout. The training enhanced students’ practical skills, strengthened their conceptual understanding, and promoted experiential learning in molecular biology.
