The Department of Microbiology, Patna Women’s College, successfully hosted the “Trash to Tiny Life” model-making competition for Semester 2, on 30th March 2026, transforming waste materials into creative representations of microscopic wonders. This unique event encouraged students to recycle everyday trash into intricate models of key microorganisms, highlightingthemes of sustainability, microbiology, and environmental awareness practices.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Dean, faculty of Science. The judging panel, comprising esteemed faculty members, Dr. Pinky Prasad, Head, Dept. Of Botany, and Mr. R.N Roy Majumdar , Assistant Professor, Dept. Of Chemistry, Patna Women’s College , evaluated entries based on scientific accuracy, creativity, use of waste materials, and presentation.
Over 40 participants showcased their ingenuity by crafting models of Escherichia coli (E. coli), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Ideonella sakaiensis, Nipah virus, etc. using discarded plastics, bottles, and other recyclables. The competition not only fostered creativity but also educated attendees on the vital roles these microbes play—from common gut bacteria and tuberculosis pathogens to plastic-degrading bacteria and emerging viruses—while promoting eco-friendly
The top three winners are:
- 1st Position: Group M1 – Model of Bacteriophage, members comprising- Sumaiya Sohail , Ruth Majumdar, Manu Vaibhav, and Shreya Aastha.
- 2nd Position: Group M2 – Model of Azotobacter, members comprising Tisha Mandal, Aditi Raj, Satakshee Suman, and Anshu Mehta.
- 3rd Position: Group M9 – Model of Ideonella sakaiensis, members comprising Zainab Ahmad, Saima Quadri , and Nancy Kumari.
The entire event was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Niti Yashvardhini, Dr. Preeti Swarupa and Dr. Swetnisha, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology.
The event underscores Patna Women’s College’s commitment to hands-on learning and innovation in life sciences.
