Event: An Online Guest Lecture to Celebrate V.P. Varma’s Birth Anniversary

An online guest lecture was organised on 25th November, 2025 by the department of Political Science to commemorate V.P. Varma’s Birth anniversary. The lecture was organised as a collaborative initiative with Loreto College, Kolkata on the topic, ‘Contours of Modern Indian Political Thought and Governance in Contemporary Times’. The resource person of the event was Professor Dr. Naved Jamal, Department of Political Science, Jamia Milia Islamia who highlighted the contribution of V.P. Varma in giving due recognition to Indian thinkers whose ideas were often marginalised.
Prof. Naved explained the Contours of Modern Indian Political Thought ranging from Reformist thought of social reformers like Raja Rammohan Roy, Jyotiba Phule, Swami Vivekanand to Radical and Socialist thought of Lohia, Jayprakash Narayan, M.N. Roy. He also elaborated the competing models of development from Indian perspective which can be applied to solve the issues of contemporary politics.
The session was intellectually stimulating as the students actively participated in the question-and-answer round. It was an enriching experience. The session concluded with a vote of thanks
