Department of Biotechnology, Patna Women’s College Organises Two-Day Workshop on Biotechnology Techniques

Patna, July 24, 2026: The Department of Biotechnology, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, successfully organised a two-day workshop on “Biotechnology Techniques”on 23–24 July 2026. The workshop was designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students and research scholars, with the objective of providing participants with hands-on exposure to essential laboratory techniques and strengthening their practical skills in biotechnology.

The workshop commenced on 23 July 2026 with an inaugural session graced by Principal Dr. Sister M. Rashmi AC, Vice Principal Dr. Sister M. Tanisha AC, Superior, Avila Convent, Dr. Sister Jincy AC, Dean, Faculty of Science, along with faculty members of the college. The dignitaries encouraged the participants to develop their practical competencies, scientific aptitude, and research-oriented approach through experiential learning and academic initiatives.

The two-day workshop provided comprehensive hands-on training in fundamental and advanced biotechnology techniques. Day 1 focused on core molecular biology and microbiology methods, including DNA isolation, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and microbial culture inoculation for ethanol production, enabling participants to develop essential laboratory skills widely used in biotechnology research and industrial applications.

Day 2 emphasized protein analysis and bioprocess technology. The programme began with an overview of bioreactor and fermenter components and their operation, followed by a practical session on microbial growth kinetics, biomass, and product estimation. Participants also received hands-on training in protein extraction, SDS-PAGE gel casting, sample preparation, agarose gel electrophoresis, and gel staining, destaining, and band visualization. These sessions strengthened participants’ understanding of biomolecule separation, protein characterization, and bioprocess techniques while providing practical exposure to methods routinely employed in molecular biology, biotechnology research, and industrial and diagnostic laboratories.

Throughout the two-day workshop, participants actively engaged in both theoretical and practical sessions under the guidance of faculty members of Department of Biotechnology, Patna Women’s college, Autonomous. The combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on laboratory training created an interactive learning environment and helped participants connect theoretical concepts with practical applications. The workshop significantly enhanced their understanding of molecular biology, microbiology, protein analysis, electrophoresis, and bioprocess technology.

The workshop was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Arti Kumari, Head, Department of Biotechnology, with the support of Dr. Alok Ranjan, Dr. Vivek Raj, and Dr. Premlata Kumari, Assistant Professors, Department of Biotechnology. The participation of students and research scholars from different colleges and universities namely College of Commerce, Arts & Science, Magadh Mahila College, Veer Kunwar University, Patliputra University and Patna University along with participants from Patna Women’s College, further contributed to the academic and collaborative spirit of the programme.

The two-day workshop concluded with a formal Valedictory Session and Certificate Distribution Ceremony in the presence of Dr. Bhawna Sinha, Dean, faculty of science and Dr Arti kumari, Head, department of biotechnology. During the session, Dr. Bhawna Sinha congratulated all the participants for their enthusiastic participation and commitment throughout the workshop. She appreciated their active involvement in the theoretical and practical sessions and encouraged them to continue developing their scientific skills through hands-on learning and research. All the registered participants received participation certificates after completion of Two days Workshop. Through this workshop, the Department of Biotechnology, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting experiential learning, scientific skill development, and research-oriented education, while equipping students and research scholars with practical competencies essential for academic, research, and professional excellence in biotechnology
