The Department of Microbiology, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, organized a Skill Based Training on Genetic Engineering on the theme “Plasmid DNA Extraction and Electrophoretic Visualization” on 22nd August 2026 for the undergraduate students. The programme was conducted under the valuable guidance and supervision of Dr. Jaya Philip, Head, Department of Microbiology.
The training session focused on the principles and practical aspects of plasmid DNA extraction and electrophoretic visualization. The training started with a lecture by Dr. Preeti Swarupa introducing the students to plasmids, their different types, their significance in genetic engineering, and the principles of plasmid extraction and isolation. Thereafter, Dr. Swetnisha explained the concept of electrophoresis. The discussion helped students understand the principles of DNA separation and visualization followed by Dr. Niti Yashvardhini explaining the process of plasmid DNA extraction and visualization. The hands on practical exposure helped students connect theoretical concepts with laboratory practices, deepen their understanding of plasmid isolation and develop essential practical skills and confidence to perform these experiments.
Thus, the Skill based Training successfully enhanced students practical understanding of genetic engineering techniques while emphasizing the importance of hands on laboratory experience in scientific learning and research.
