The Tark Debating Society in collaboration with the Department of English, Patna Women’s College organised a speech competition on 27th August on the topic “Freedom in the Age of Surveillance.”
The event provided students with a platform to critically engage with the contemporary challenges surrounding freedom, privacy, technology, and surveillance.
The programme was initiated by Dr. Shahla Rehana, Coordinator, Tark Debating Society, who encouraged the participants to approach the topic with originality, clarity, and critical insight.
The competition was judged by Dr. Zareen Fatima, Head, Department of Economics, and Dr. Fiza Darakshan, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. The speeches explored questions of individual freedom, privacy, technological advancement, social control, and the changing nature of liberty in the digital age.
The enthusiastic participation of students demonstrated their confidence, analytical abilities, and oratory skills. The winners of the speech competition were Aleena Ahmad who secured the first position, followed by Ayesha Singh who got the second position followed by Sania Rai in third position.The judges also acknowledged Suhani Mishra and Tasneem Fatima for their impressive presentations and promising oratory skills. The competition promoted critical thinking, effective communication, informed debate, and intellectual engagement, reflecting the commitment of the Tark Debating Society and the Department of English towards nurturing confident and articulate student voices in today’s survellianced society.
