In accordance with the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Department of English, Patna Women’s College, observed Anti-Ragging Week from August 27 to September 2, 2026, with the objective of promoting awareness regarding the prevention of ragging and fostering a safe, inclusive, respectful, and harassment-free academic environment. A series of awareness-oriented and participatory activities were organized throughout the week to sensitize students to the adverse consequences of ragging and to reinforce the institutional commitment towards maintaining a culture of dignity, mutual respect, and student well-being.
The observance commenced on August 27, 2026, with the screening of an educational documentary focusing on the issue of ragging, its psychological and social implications, and the significance of collective responsibility in preventing such practices. The screening was coordinated by Dr. Nikhila Narayanan, Assistant Professor, Department of English. Following the documentary screening, an interactive discussion session was conducted with the students, providing them with a platform to reflect upon the issues highlighted in the documentary and to articulate their views, concerns, and observations regarding ragging and its implications. The discussion encouraged critical engagement with the subject and underscored the importance of fostering a supportive, respectful, and non-threatening campus environment.
On August 29, 2026, a Slogan-Writing Competition was organized to encourage students to express their understanding of anti-ragging principles through creative and collaborative forms of communication. Students of Semester I (UG and PG) participated in the competition. The activity served not only as a creative platform but also as an effective means of reinforcing awareness of the institutional and ethical responsibilities associated with preventing ragging.
As part of the institution’s mandatory anti-ragging compliance measures, all Semester I undergraduate and postgraduate students completed and submitted the requisite Anti-Ragging Affidavit forms on September 1, 2026. The completion of this formal undertaking reaffirmed the students’ awareness of the institutional regulations governing ragging and their commitment to upholding a safe and conducive learning environment.
The week-long observance concluded on September 2, 2026, with a Seminar on Anti-Ragging Regulations, organized by the Department of Education.
The Anti-Ragging Week activities organized by the Department of English were coordinated by Dr. Nikhila Narayanan under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Seher Rehman, Head, Department of English, Patna Women’s College. The observance successfully combined awareness-building, creative engagement, regulatory compliance, and academic discussion, thereby contributing to the development of a responsible and respectful student community.
