The Department of Data Science and Analytics successfully organized “Data Stories: A Data Visualization Contest for Census Insights” to celebrate World Population Day. The event aimed to create awareness about global population issues while encouraging students to transform census data into meaningful and engaging visual stories.
The programme began with a warm welcome to all the respected guests, judges, faculty members, and students. Heartfelt gratitude was extended to Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C. (Principal) and Dr. Sister M. Tanisha A.C. (Vice Principal) for their constant guidance and support. The judges, faculty members, and all participants were warmly welcomed to the event.
The programme officially began with a prayer song. After the prayer, Ms. Shahli Tabassum, Assistant Professor, addressed the gathering and encouraged all participants to present their ideas confidently and creatively.
The contest was judged by Dr. Priyadarshini, Head, Department of Data Science and Analytics and Dr. Moon, Head, Department of Statistics.
A total of 16 teams participated in the competition. Each team presented a unique data visualization based on census-related topics. Every presentation reflected careful research, creativity, analytical skills, and the effective use of visual storytelling techniques. The audience appreciated the diverse approaches adopted by the participants in presenting complex data in a simple and meaningful manner.
Dr. Moon announced the names of the winners.
First prize was won by Ridhima Raj Singh and team, Department of AIML.
Second prize was bagged by Pratishtha Giri and team, Department of Data Science and Analytics.
Third Prize was won by two teams namely Shakshi Singh and team, Department of DSA and Zainab Ahsan and team from Department of AIML.
The event concluded on a successful note with a vote of thanks. Sincere gratitude was expressed to the respected judges, faculty members, organizers, volunteers, technical team, and all participants for making the programme a grand success. The competition provided an excellent platform for students to develop their analytical thinking, data visualization skills, communication abilities, and teamwork while promoting awareness about important population issues through the power of data storytelling.
