The Department of Zoology, in collaboration with Eco Task Force (ETF) and Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, successfully organized an awareness programme on the occasion of World Sparrow Day on 19th March 2026.
The event aimed to sensitize students and the public about the rapid decline in sparrow populations and the urgent need for their conservation. As part of the programme, a painting competition was conducted to creatively express ideas on sparrow conservation and environmental protection. A total of 62 active members of the Eco Task Force enthusiastically participated in the event.
Range Officer Ms. Nisha Bharti and her team from Patna Zoo actively supported the programme and provided the necessary materials for the painting competition, contributing significantly to its success.
The event was efficiently organized by Ms. Ruquaya Fatima, Semester VI, while the entire programme was well-coordinated by Dr. Sumeet Ranjan, Secretary, Eco Task Force and Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.
Sparrows are vital indicators of a healthy ecosystem. Their declining numbers due to urbanization, pollution, and loss of nesting spaces is a matter of serious concern. The programme concluded with a strong appeal to all stakeholders to take proactive steps toward conserving sparrows and preserving biodiversity.
