The Department of Fashion Designing, Patna Women’s College autonomous celebrated Handloom Day in collaboration with Department of Home Science on 7th August, 2025 in B. J. Sullivan Hall.
In the first session a guest lecture was delivered on “Khadi and modern fashion industries” by Mr. Subhash Kumar, a senior design professional, Bihar State Khadi and Village Industries Board, Patna. The session was started with a welcome speech of Dr. Suniti Bhagat, Asst. Prof. Department of Home Sc.
The programme was concluded with Fashion show organised by the Department of Fashion Designing. It was divided into three distinct rounds with 65 UG and PG student of Fashion Designing Department. 5 Home Science students also actively participated and presented their creativity by draping.
The 1st Round featured elegant saree draping with contemporary styles and designer blouses, demonstrating modern interpretations of traditional attire.
In 2nd Round presented an impressive collection of Indo-western dress designs, seamlessly blending traditional Indian aesthetics with modern silhouettes.
3rd and the last round showcased creative dresses designed around the iconic handloom “Gamchha” of Bihar, highlighting its adaptability in contemporary fashion. Students took the spotlight with impressive ramp walk, showing off their unique designs, focused on handloom
The vice Principal and HOD Home Science Dept.Dr. Sister Tanisha A.C. graced the event. All faculties of Home Science Department and Fashion Designing Department were present in this occasion.
The Ramp Walk session was executed under the guidance of HOD, Department of Fashion Designing Dr. Shemushi Madhu, Coordinator Ms. Geetanjali Choudhary. The creative and technical part of the programme was ensured by other faculty members Ms. Asha Pandey, Priyanka Singh, Dr. Purnima Roy and Ms. Vandana Sinha.
This event was truly a tribute to the timeless artistry of Indian handloom.
