Human Rights Day Observance

The Department of Political Science, Patna Women’s College, organised a Human Chain on the occasion of Human Rights Day from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM to spread awareness on the importance of dignity, equality, and fundamental rights for all individuals irrespective of any differences. Faculty members and students from department of political science and sociology participated actively, holding posters and placards highlighting themes of justice, liberty, equality, and human dignity. The human chain served as a symbolic reminder of global human rights challenges and the collective responsibility to uphold them. The event took place outside the college gate, with enthusiastic participation from students across UG and PG programmes. Following the human chain, an Interactive Session was organised at BJ Sullivan Hall on the theme “Role of Judiciary in Safeguarding Human Rights in India”, addressed by Advocate Kumar Harshvardhan, Patna High Court. The session provided insightful perspectives on constitutional rights, judicial activism, and the judiciary’s role as the guardian of human rights. The programme was anchored by Aditi Singh and Ritika Kumari (UG Semester 6), followed by an address by Ms Fiza Darakshan, Assistant Professor on behalf of the Department of Political Science, emphasising the relevance of Human Rights Day. A sapling was presented to the guest as a token of respect and gratitude. An engaging Question–Answer round encouraged students to interact directly with the speaker, with participation from Semester 6 students of Political Science, Sociology, and History. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Sadia Rahmat, PG Semester 4.
