The Department of Data Science and Analytics organised a one-day hands-on workshop titled “Big Data in Practice: Hadoop & MapReduce Workshop” for the students on 22.08.2026. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Naveen Kumar, Associate Professor, Amity Institute of Information Technology, Amity University, Patna.
The session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Priyadarshini, Head of the Department of Data Science and Analytics, who introduced the resource person and highlighted the importance of big data technologies in modern analytics.
Dr. Naveen Kumar, with his strong academic foundation in Computer Science and Engineering and a Ph.D. in the same discipline, shared his expertise on distributed computing frameworks. He provided students with practical insights into the Hadoop ecosystem, covering:
• HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System)
• YARN (Yet Another Resource Negotiator)
• MapReduce Programming Model
• Data Ingestion Techniques.
The workshop was interactive, with students gaining hands-on experience in storing, processing, and analyzing big data using Hadoop. They developed practical skills in distributed systems and explored real-world applications of HDFS, YARN, MapReduce, and data ingestion techniques. The session concluded with a Q&A, where students clarified doubts and discussed career opportunities in big data analytics, making the event both insightful and enriching.
