The Department of Statistics, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, celebrated World Population Day 2026 on 13th July, 2026 by organizing a Poster Making Competition on the theme “Statistics for Sustainable Population: Data, Demography and Development.” The event aimed to create awareness among students about the vital role of statistics in understanding population dynamics and promoting sustainable development through informed decision-making.
A total of 11 groups enthusiastically participated in the competition, showcasing their creativity, analytical skills, and understanding of population-related issues through informative and visually appealing posters. The entries highlighted important topics such as population census, birth and death rates, migration, education, health, literacy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating how statistical insights contribute to addressing contemporary demographic challenges.
The competition was judged by Dr. Alok Ranjan, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, and Dr. Nandani Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry. The judges appreciated the originality, creativity, and analytical approach displayed by the participants. They commended the students for effectively integrating statistical concepts with real-world population issues and encouraged them to continue developing data-driven perspectives for addressing societal challenges.
The event provided an excellent platform for students to blend creativity with statistical thinking while fostering awareness of population issues and the importance of evidence-based planning. The enthusiastic participation and high quality of the presentations reflected the Department’s commitment to promoting statistical literacy and encouraging students to apply statistical knowledge beyond the classroom.
