On 23 July 2026, the Department of History, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, organised a Speech Competition on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak.. The competition was conducted for the students of Semester V, and the topic was “Tilak’s Contribution to India’s Freedom Struggle.” The event aimed to commemorate the life and contributions of one of India’s greatest freedom fighters and to encourage students to deepen their understanding of his role in India’s national movement.
The students of Semester V participated with great enthusiasm and confidence. Through their speeches, the students highlighted Tilak’s famous slogan, “Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it,” his efforts in awakening national consciousness, his contribution through the newspapers Kesari and TheMaratha, and his role in transforming the freedom movement into a mass movement. Participants also emphasised his promotion of public festivals such as Ganesh Utsav and Shivaji Jayanti as a means of fostering unity and nationalism.
The Programme was judged by Dr.Kriti Singh and Dr. Pratibha Singh ,Assistant Professors of the department of history. The winners were announced at the end of the event The department always look forward to organise various such programmes.

The event concluded with words of appreciation for all the participants and encouragement to continue learning about the lives and contributions of great national leaders. The competition was a meaningful and inspiring tribute to Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and helped strengthen students’ understanding of India’s freedom struggle.
