Extempore Competition
The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics in collaboration with Department of Home Science organized an Extempore Competition on 11th September 2025 at room no. 30 with the objective of enhancing communication skills, confidence and spontaneity among participants. The event aimed to provide students a platform to express their ideas on various topics related to diet, nutrition, food, balanced diet, health, lifestyle within a limited preparation time.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Siddhant Parashar, Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics followed by an introduction to the rules of the competition. Each participant was required to pick a topic randomly and deliver a short speech within 2 minutes, with just a few seconds of preparation. Topics included themes such as healthy lifestyle, importance of diet and nutrition, role of nutrition in good health.
A total of 28 participants took part in the competition, representing Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics and Department of Home Science. The participants demonstrated confidence, clarity of thought, and creativity in presenting their ideas. Their ability to think on their feet and organize thoughts in a limited time was commendable. Some speeches were thought-provoking, while others were inspiring and humorous, keeping the audience engaged.
The event was judged by Dr. Shobha Srivastava, Head, Department of Zoology, Dr. Pinky Prasad, Head, Department of Botany and Dr. Jaya Philip, Head, Department of Microbiology who evaluated the performances based on content, clarity, confidence, body language, and overall delivery. After an intense and lively session, the top three winners were announced along with a consolation position winner. First position- Adeeba Kulsum (B.Sc. Sem I – Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics), Second position – Aiman Ali (B.Sc. Sem I – Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics), Third position – Sadhana Kumari (B.A. Semester III – Home Science) and consolation – Pratibha (M.A. Semester I – Home Science).
The program concluded by acknowledging the efforts of Dr. Sister M. Tanisha, Head, Department of Home Science for the guidance and support, program coordinator Mr. Siddhant Parashar, judges and participants. Feedback from both students and judges highlighted that the competition helped boost self-confidence and public speaking skills.
Overall, the Extempore Competition was a great success, providing a valuable learning experience and encouraging students to express themselves effectively and confidently.
