Department of Mass Communication Hosted Guest Lecture on ‘Challenges in Ground Reporting’

The Department of Mass Communication at Patna Women’s College, Autonomous organized an insightful guest lecture on the theme “Challenges in Ground Reporting: Safety, Access, and Political Pressure.” The session was held on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM onwards at the MVEIC Hall of the college.

The resource person for the lecture was Mr. Abhinav Pandey, Founding Editor of The Newspinch and an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi. Drawing from his extensive experience, Mr. Pandey shed light on the complexities of ground reporting, addressing issues such as personal safety, access to authentic information, and navigating political pressures.
The event commenced with Dr. Aparajita Pathak, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication, welcoming the gathering and introducing the guest speaker. Ms. Roma, Head of the Department, felicitated Mr. Pandey with a plant sapling, symbolizing growth and positive energy.

During the lecture, Mr. Pandey also shared the trailer of his recently launched documentary “Marudhara” by The Newspinch, which exposes the toxic pollution of Rajasthan’s Jojari River. The film captures the devastating impact of environmental neglect and political apathy on the health and livelihoods of nearly two million people.

The session also included an engaging question-and-answer round, where Mass Communication students actively interacted with the speaker, seeking clarity on the ethical and practical aspects of field reporting.The event aimed to deepen the students’ understanding of real-world journalistic challenges and inspire them to approach the profession with responsibility and resilience.

The session was concluded by Ms. Roma, Head, Department of Mass Communication who shared her valuable feedback and Dr. Aparajita Pathak Assistant professor, delivered vote of thanks which was followed by group photography.
