The Department of Microbiology – Display Competition

Display Competition Theme “From Grains to Gut: The Magic of Fermenting Millet with Superfood.” Date- 10/02/2026

The Department of Microbiology, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, successfully organized a Display Competition for Semester IV on February 10, 2026, under the theme “From Grains to Gut: The Magic of Fermenting Millet with Superfood.” The programme was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. Sister M. Rashmi, A.C., who encouraged the participants and appreciated the innovative efforts of the students. The event was conducted with the objective of promoting awareness about the probiotic capability, nutritional value, and health benefits of fermented Millets highlighting their role in improving gut health and promoting sustainable nutrition.

Participants prepared a wide range of fermented millet-based dishes such as millet Briyani, millet blueberry cake, millet sourdough pizza and many more. Along with the displays, students explained the step by step fermentation process, emphasizing the role of beneficial microorganisms such as Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc, and Saccharomyces species involved in lactic acid and natural fermentation. The event successfully combined practical knowledge with core microbiological concepts and served as an excellent platform for students to integrate scientific understanding with creativity while spreading awareness about sustainable food practices and gut health.

The judging panel comprised of Dr. Urvashi Sinha, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany and Dr. Sumeet Ranja, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology announced the winners at conclusion of the event. The 1st position was secured by Group F9 with it’s members Harshita, Rishika Bhardwaj, and Mahi Raj, the 2nd position was bagged by Group F3 with it’s members Akriti Kumari, Soumya Kumari, Nisha Yadav, Nazia Parween, Shrawani Kumari followed by Group F5 Vaishnavi Shree, Kashish Sharma, Sonam Kumari, Srishti Duncan who secured the 3rd position.

The entire event was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Niti Yashvardhini, Dr. Preeti Swarupa, and Dr. Swetnisha, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology. The competition successfully merged innovation with scientific awareness, encouraging students to explore the science behind fermentation, appreciate the role of beneficial microorganisms, and actively contribute to public health education and nutritional sustainability.
